According to Nikkei, TikTok, plans to launch its e-commerce service, TikTok Shop in Japan starting June 2025.
This move is part of TikTok’s global expansion strategy, following the platform's launch of TikTok Shop in France, Germany, and Italy in March this year.
With over 40 million registered users in Japan, TikTok sees massive potential in tapping into the country’s booming e-commerce market, which is valued at around $380 billion and is expected to grow by 7% from 2024 to 2027.
The platform is well-known for offering products at discounted prices, making it attractive to users hunting for good deals.

TikTok is currently recruiting local sellers, including businesses and individuals, to join the platform.
This expansion is also viewed as a strategic move for TikTok to diversify its revenue sources, especially amid uncertainties in the U.S., where new laws may force TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell its U.S. assets by January 2025.
By launching TikTok Shop in Japan, TikTok aims to strengthen its presence in the global e-commerce space and offer an interactive shopping experience for Japanese consumers.
