Etihad Airways has entered into a strategic codeshare partnership with STARLUX Airlines, a premium carrier based in Taipei, Taiwan.

This collaboration aims to expand travel options between Northeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, while strengthening Abu Dhabi’s role as a key global transit hub.

The announcement was made during the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting held in New Delhi. Through this agreement, passengers flying with Etihad will be able to connect to several major cities in Japan such as Nagoya, Sapporo, and Fukuoka via STARLUX’s hub in Taipei.

Meanwhile, STARLUX customers will gain access to a range of European destinations including Madrid, Barcelona, and Prague by transiting through Abu Dhabi on Etihad flights.

To support this partnership, Etihad will launch a new daily route between Abu Dhabi and Taipei starting 7 September 2025, operated by its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

This new route is expected to serve as a vital link for travellers heading between Asia and Europe, and it forms the foundation of the codeshare agreement.

Passengers will benefit from a streamlined travel experience, with the ability to book their entire journey on a single ticket. The partnership will also provide coordinated check-in and baggage services, allowing luggage to be transferred directly to the final destination without additional hassle.

In addition, both airlines plan to roll out a shared frequent flyer programme by the end of the year, enabling members to earn and redeem miles across both networks.

Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, Arik De, described the partnership as a major step in expanding access to the Japanese market and praised STARLUX’s high-quality service.

He emphasized the shared values between the two carriers and highlighted the improved connectivity now available to travellers across three continents.

Chief Strategy Officer TARLUX Airlines Simon Liu, called the deal a milestone in the airline’s global growth, especially as it prepares to expand further into Europe. He noted that working with Etihad is a respected name in premium aviation and gives STARLUX a strong platform to broaden its international network while offering passengers more flexible travel options.

This agreement supports Etihad’s broader growth strategy, which has seen the airline expand its network to over 90 destinations worldwide.

It also reinforces Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a world-class transit hub, offering excellent airport facilities and travel experiences such as the Etihad Stopover programme, which gives passengers the chance to explore the UAE capital during layovers.

Codeshare flights will become available for booking on Etihad’s website, app, and through travel agents once all regulatory approvals are in place.
