Volkswagen has expanded its local sport utility vehicle (SUV) lineup with the launch of the all-new Volkswagen Tayron, a locally assembled seven-seater SUV positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg.
The Tayron is offered in two variants: the Elegance, priced at RM189,890, and the performance-oriented R-Line, which is currently available for preview with an estimated price ranging from RM259,000 to RM269,000.
With the Volkswagen Assurance Package, which includes five years of free maintenance, warranty and roadside assistance, the Elegance is priced at RM199,990.
As part of an introductory Merdeka promotion, the first 69 Tayron buyers will receive seven years of free maintenance, personal accident and car key coverage, as well as a chance to win a three-day, two-night luxury holiday package.
Manufactured at Volkswagen's assembly plant in Pekan, Pahang, the Tayron is designed to cater to families seeking a spacious SUV with flexible seating for up to seven occupants. The vehicle offers up to 1,905 litres of cargo capacity with the second and third rows folded.
The Elegance variant is powered by a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid engine producing 150PS and 250Nm of torque, while the R-Line features a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI engine delivering 265PS and 400Nm, paired with Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
Both variants come with a seven-speed DSG transmission and Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro).
Inside, the Tayron comes equipped with Volkswagen's latest digital cockpit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and IDA voice assistant.
The Elegance receives a 12.9-inch infotainment display, while the R-Line features a larger 15-inch Discover Pro Max touchscreen and a head-up display.
On the safety front, both variants are equipped with Volkswagen's IQ.DRIVE suite of driver assistance technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Front Assist, Rear Traffic Alert and Park Assist Plus. The Tayron has also received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
The all-new Tayron is available in five exterior colours, including the new Nightshade Blue and Oyster Silver. The Elegance variant is now available for viewing at Volkswagen dealerships nationwide, while the R-Line remains in preview ahead of its official market introduction.
