U Mobile Sdn Bhd has announced the appointment of OCK Telco Infra Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of OCK Group Berhad, as one of its preferred strategic partners to deliver next-generation 5G in-building coverage (IBC) infrastructure across Malaysia.
The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two companies. It aims to significantly strengthen U Mobile’s 5G indoor network capabilities by providing fast, reliable, and seamless 5G connectivity in high-density buildings such as office towers, shopping malls, airports, and stadiums.
Through this collaboration, OCK will support U Mobile by designing and deploying customized 5G IBC solutions using Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), small cells, and hybrid infrastructure tailored to specific building requirements.
This move is aligned with U Mobile’s target of achieving 80% population coverage for 5G, including robust indoor connectivity, by July 2026.
Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile, Woon Ooi Yuen expressed confidence in the partnership, stating that OCK’s proven experience and technical strength would play a key role in enabling U Mobile to deliver high-performance 5G indoors in a cost-effective and timely manner.
He emphasized that strong indoor coverage is crucial for ensuring the quality and reliability of next-gen mobile services.
Meanwhile,Managing Director of OCK Group Berhad, Datuk Wira Sam Ooi Chin Khoon, said that the collaboration represents a significant milestone in supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation.
He reaffirmed OCK’s commitment to leveraging its extensive expertise in telecommunications infrastructure to help accelerate the nation’s 5G rollout, particularly in complex indoor environments.
Beyond infrastructure deployment, both parties have expressed interest in exploring broader technological advancements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous systems, and smart city applications that will define the future of 5G and digital services in Malaysia.
This partnership builds upon U Mobile’s ongoing network expansion efforts, complementing its existing relationships with major network vendors such as Huawei and ZTE.
Together with OCK, U Mobile aims to ensure that Malaysians can experience the full benefits of next-generation 5G, not only outdoors but also in the places they live, work, and gather every day.
