
U Mobile has announced the appointment of Huawei Malaysia and ZTE Malaysia as its primary technology partners for the development of its next-gen 5G network.
With the goal of achieving 80% coverage in populated areas within the first 12 months of rollout, the company aims to reach 90% coverage in the following year.
The partnership agreement was signed at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Malaysia’s Minister of Communications witnessed by YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Party Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China Li Lecheng.

Meanwhile, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile Woon Ooi Yuen stated that the next-gen 5G network will be equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure and software technology that is future-proof to provide superior 5G experiences for both consumers and enterprises.
The network will also feature 5G-Advanced capabilities and network slicing, designed to meet the diverse needs of various industries.
“U Mobile is looking forward to Huawei and ZTE playing a critical role in bringing a Next Gen 5G network that is enterprise-grade to Malaysians rapidly,” he added.
In addition, U Mobile plans to expand 5G coverage in strategic areas such as transport hubs, healthcare facilities, sports stadiums, smart cities, and data centers, with a focus on enhancing indoor coverage for a more comprehensive 5G experience.
Huawei Malaysia and ZTE Malaysia will play a key role in ensuring the timely deployment of the 5G network, leveraging their global expertise and advanced technologies to support the rapid rollout and ensure the success of the network.
