Toyota Motor Corporation has unveiled two new battery electric vehicle (BEV) models the Toyota bZ7 and the Lexus ES BEV at Auto Shanghai 2025, underscoring its commitment to carbon neutrality through a multi-pathway approach tailored to local market needs.

BEVs currently make up a significant portion of new car sales in the country, making it one of the most advanced markets in EV development.

The bZ7 is a new all-electric sedan developed specifically for the Chinese market in collaboration with Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. (GTMC), and the Intelligent ElectroMobility R&D Center by Toyota (IEM by TOYOTA).

Spanning over five meters in length, the bZ7 combines Toyota’s renowned quality, safety, and reliability with China’s advanced EV technology.

The vehicle will feature next-generation intelligent systems, making it a flagship model within Toyota’s BEV lineup in China. Commercial launch is expected within the next year.

Luxury brand Lexus also introduced the all-new Lexus ES BEV, the first model in its next-generation electrified lineup.

According to Toyota, in 2024, electrified vehicles accounted for a record-high 52% of global sales. With a continued focus on HEVs, PHEVs, and BEVs, LEXUS will work toward realizing a carbon-neutral society while responding to the evolving needs of diverse customers and markets.

Toyota’s latest moves reinforce its belief in a multi-pathway approach to reducing emissions  offering a range of electrified mobility solutions, from hybrids to BEVs, tailored to different markets around the world.

Available in both BEV and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) variants, the ES BEV promises a spacious and refined interior, elevated ride comfort, and an ultra-quiet cabin experience.

Inspired by Lexus' futuristic LF-ZC BEV concept, the ES integrates advanced electrification technology and cutting-edge design language aimed at delivering a premium and sustainable mobility experience.

With China leading the global EV transformation, Toyota’s expanded presence in the country signifies a strategic step in both addressing environmental concerns and meeting the evolving preferences of Chinese consumers.
