Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has refined its leadership and corporate structure as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and support long-term sustainability in an increasingly complex energy landscape .

The restructuring introduces two new senior leadership roles, the Senior Chief Network Officer (SCNO) and the Senior Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer (SCSSO) aimed at clearly separating operational execution from strategic direction.

TNB said the move is designed to reinforce good governance practices while ensuring the organisation remains future-ready and resilient.

Under the refined structure, the President and Chief Executive Officer will continue to provide overall leadership and stewardship, while senior executives are given clearly defined responsibilities to drive performance, transformation and long-term value creation.

The newly created SCNO role will oversee the majority of execution and delivery responsibilities, including operational performance, network reliability and system resilience.

This role is intended to strengthen focus on TNB’s core mandate of delivering safe, reliable and resilient electricity supply nationwide. Ir. Mahathir Nor Ismail has been appointed to the position, effective 1 January 2026.

Meanwhile, the SCSSO role consolidates strategy, sustainability and long-term planning functions under a single leadership umbrella. This is aimed at improving strategic coherence, strengthening stakeholder communication and ensuring sustainability considerations are fully embedded in TNB’s long-term decision-making. Dato’ Ir. Muhamad Nazri Pazil will assume the role from 1 January 2026.

TNB said the clearer delineation between execution and strategy is expected to improve coordination across the organisation, strengthen alignment between long-term planning and day-to-day operations, and support a more robust succession management process.

The refined structure also reflects the company’s emphasis on developing internal leadership talent capable of navigating the energy transition and managing large-scale transformation.

The leadership enhancement supports the delivery of Reimagining TNB 2.0 (RT2.0), the utility’s strategic roadmap to transform Malaysia’s energy system towards a more sustainable, resilient and future-ready model. The initiative is aligned with the nation’s aspiration to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Overall, TNB said the changes are designed to reinforce leadership continuity, strengthen organisational effectiveness and ensure the company remains well-positioned to meet its responsibilities as Malaysia’s national electricity utility while supporting long-term energy and sustainability goals.
