On 28 February 2025, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) issued a press release stating that it will power Malaysia’s future and channel 60% of its profits back to Malaysians. TNB continues to strengthen its economic resilience and ensure Malaysia's energy supply remains stable through strong financial performance for 2024.
The people's main concern regarding electricity tariffs is often linked to the profits of TNB. However, the company has assured that the tariff rates are not influenced by their profits as the government regulates them.
Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan mentioned that fairness and transparency are very important to Malaysians.
“Our commitment is clear, profits are not taken for granted but returned to the rakyat through better services, stable tariffs and long-term energy security,” he added.
A total of 60 percent of the company's profits are distributed as dividends to government-linked investment companies (GLICs) such as Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), Khazanah Nasional Bhd (Khazanah), Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), Retirement Fund (Incorporated) (KWAP), and Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).

According to TNB, reinvestment in grid efficiency is important for keeping power costs affordable and avoiding unnecessary increases. Additionally, people-focused energy programs such as solar incentives and Time-of-Use tariffs have been implemented to help consumers lower their electricity bills.
TNB stated that improved security and connectivity in remote areas have encouraged economic activities and contributed to the country's progress enjoyed by society as a whole.
The dividends announced not only provide returns to shares, but also contribute to the well-being of the people through GLICs who collectively have more than 60 percent stake in TNB.
It also strengthens the financial safety net for retirees and Malaysians, as well as contributing to the country's economic stability in the long term.
Additionally TNB continues to expand its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs that bring direct benefits to Malaysians, focusing on four key areas: education, sports, community well-being, and environmental sustainability.
