PROTON recorded strong sales growth in May 2025, with total sales reaching 13,328 units, up 6.1% compared to May 2024.
This continues to show strong progress in 2025, with sales growing for the third month in a row.
The company experienced a rise in car sales both in Malaysia and overseas, driven by strong interest in its well-liked SUV and Sedan models.
Among the best performers were the Proton X50 and X70, which remain favourites among Malaysian drivers. Sedan models like the Saga, Persona, and S70 also received good response from buyers.
The biggest highlight came from Proton e.MAS 7, the company’s electric vehicle (EV). It continued to lead EV sales in Malaysia and achieved its highest monthly sales so far with 916 units sold in May, showing that more Malaysians are now open to driving electric cars.
It also remains the best-selling EV in Malaysia for the fifth straight month and the total year-to-date (YTD) sales now stand at 3,632 units.

Export sales are also growing steadily. PROTON is focusing more on expanding to international markets, with recent efforts in countries like Egypt, Nepal, and Singapore.
In June, the company will also introduce its EV to Trinidad & Tobago, further strengthening its global presence.
According to PROTON’s CEO, Dr. Li Chunrong, the recent success is a result of strong promotional efforts, attractive new models, and customer trust.
He added that PROTON is confident it will keep up the momentum in the second half of the year with more events and new car launches.
