President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, will undertake a state visit to Malaysia from April 15 to 17, 2025, at the invitation of His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the Yang di Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim. 

He will be accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior government officials. Both nations, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties last year, maintain strong bilateral relations.               

This visit marks President Xi’s state visits in 2025. During his last state visit to Malaysia in 2013, both countries upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.  

During his visit, President Xi will be accorded an official welcome ceremony and will have an audience with his Majesty, the king at Istana Negara. His Majesty will  host a state banquet in honour of President Xi and his delegation.

President Xi is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. 

Both leaders are expected to witness the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding, agreements and official notes between Malaysia and China. The Prime Minister will also host an official dinner at Seri Perdana to welcome President Xi.

China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years since 2009. In 2024, total trade between the two countries reached RM484.12 billion, accounting for 16.8% of Malaysia’s global trade, which stood at RM2.879 trillion.
