Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Ankara last night to begin a three-day official visit to Turkiye, which will run until January 8, at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The special aircraft carrying Anwar, his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and the Malaysian delegation landed at Esenboga International Airport at 7.20 pm local time, corresponding to 12.20 am Wednesday in Malaysia.

The visit aims to strengthen long-standing bilateral relations between Malaysia and Türkiye, including cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, economic development, and diplomatic engagement.

Shortly after his arrival, Anwar, who is also Malaysia’s Finance Minister, attended the MADANI Sentuhan Kasih gathering with the Malaysian diaspora in Turkiye.

The session provided an opportunity to outline the MADANI government’s direction, particularly in managing the national economy and reinforcing governance that is transparent, accountable, and centred on the interests of the people.

Anwar stated that a resilient and sustainable economy enables the government to channel benefits directly to the people while continuing support through relevant government agencies.

He also highlighted the need to empower Malaysians with the skills and capabilities required to adapt to technological changes, including artificial intelligence (AI), so they can contribute meaningfully to the country’s development and progress.

Anwar said the MADANI government remains committed to ensuring that economic prosperity is shared fairly and inclusively, with the goal of building a more competitive, inclusive, and humane Malaysia.

The official visit is expected to include high-level bilateral meetings and discussions on strengthening strategic cooperation between Malaysia and Turkiye.
