Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced a landmark decision that will see all Malaysians enjoying a new, lower price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre beginning 30 September 2025.
The initiative, revealed through his official posting on X, underscores the government’s commitment to ease the people’s burden while strengthening Malaysia’s economic resilience.
According to the Prime Minister, the new subsidised price can be accessed conveniently either by using MyKad at fuel station counters and pumps, or through mobile applications provided by participating petrol stations. This move, he explained, is designed to ensure that the subsidy is channelled directly and efficiently to Malaysians, while preventing misuse.

Anwar further announced that certain groups will be able to enjoy this benefit earlier. Members of the police and armed forces will be the first, beginning 27 September. Meanwhile, recipients of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) will start enjoying the new price on 28 September, two days before the nationwide rollout.
This phased introduction reflects the government’s focus on recognising the sacrifices of frontline security personnel and providing relief to vulnerable households who are most affected by the rising cost of living.
Malaysia’s decision to lower RON95 prices comes at a time when the world continues to grapple with global economic volatility, driven by factors such as energy market fluctuations, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain disruptions.
Anwar stressed that this bold step represents not only a direct financial relief for the rakyat but also a demonstration of confidence in Malaysia’s economic fundamentals. “This is the highest form of appreciation for the people of Malaysia who continue to work hard, persevere, and share the government’s vision to accelerate the country’s economic growth,” he said in his statement.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that the achievement was made possible through the collective strength of Malaysians who have remained resilient and united in the face of economic challenges
He described the policy as a collective victory, made possible by the unity and determination of Malaysians. “Our success today is the result of the people’s strength, who never gave up,” he stated, reiterating his administration’s pledge to govern with integrity and inclusivity.
As Malaysia transitions into this new phase of fuel subsidy implementation, the government is expected to monitor its impact closely to ensure long-term sustainability. The move aligns with broader efforts to build an economy that is both people-centric and resilient against global uncertainties.
For now, Malaysians can look forward to paying RM1.99 per litre for RON95 petrol starting 30 September.
