PETRONAS, through its regulatory arm Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), formalised a series of strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with several leading global technology firms at the Energy Asia 2025 conference.
The MoUs were signed with major players including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, SLB, Halliburton, Accenture, Iraya Energies, Rystad Energy Advisory Asia Pacific, and S&P Global Commodity Insights.
These partnerships are designed to elevate Malaysia’s upstream energy sector through the integration of advanced digital technologies, with a focus on Agentic artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) to streamline and accelerate investment decision-making processes.
Speaking at the event, PETRONAS Senior Vice President of MPM, Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong, underscored the importance of embracing digital intelligence and strategic collaboration in driving sustainable growth within the sector.
“At PETRONAS, we believe that by embracing digital intelligence and strategic partnerships, we are enhancing Malaysia’s Exploration and Production (E&P) competitiveness, creating an investment environment anchored on pace, data reliability, and transparency,” he said.
One of the key outcomes of the MoUs is the advancement of PETRONAS’ web-based E&P data platform, myPROdata, which will be enhanced to support future Malaysia Bid Rounds.
This upgrade is expected to provide investors with more reliable, transparent, and timely access to critical exploration and production data, significantly reducing the time needed to assess opportunities and make informed decisions.
The collaboration also signifies PETRONAS’ broader commitment to global collaboration and innovation in energy management. As the energy industry continues to transition in response to climate and sustainability goals, digital transformation is seen as a crucial enabler for greater efficiency, agility, and environmental stewardship.
“PETRONAS remains committed to ensuring an optimal and sustainable energy supply for Malaysia and the region,” added Datuk Bacho.
MPM plays a pivotal role in managing petroleum arrangements and stewardship of upstream petroleum activities.
By partnering with some of the world’s most innovative technology and consulting firms, PETRONAS is setting the stage for a digitally empowered energy landscape that supports economic growth, energy security, and sustainability.
Energy Asia 2025, a premier platform for industry leaders and stakeholders to engage on the future of energy, provided the backdrop for this announcement, further reinforcing Malaysia’s role as a regional energy hub and a leader in energy transition and innovation.
