Perodua on May 8 unveiled the final chapter of its electric vehicle (EV) journey with the public debut of a half-cut EV prototype at the Malaysian Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025).

The showcase offers a closer look at the interior design and technological components of the national carmaker’s developing EV project.

The half-cut model, introduced highlights Perodua’s capabilities in EV design and production. Visitors at MAS 2025 can also experience a simulated drive of the prototype, offering a glimpse of what’s to come.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad stated that the display highlights Malaysia’s capabilities in adopting and assimilating EV technologies as their own.

Perodua’s booth also features various initiatives aimed at promoting electrification in the country. Among them is the X06E, a working hybrid/electric vehicle prototype developed in collaboration with Politeknik Muadzam Shah.

“This collaboration proves that our technical students are capable of producing such technologies. For Perodua, it is our mission to grow the automotive ecosystem to transfer knowledge to all Malaysians.

“We actively contribute to nation-building through such activities so that we all can benefit,” he added.

Perodua also announced its partnership with Emerald Horizon, an Austrian-based company working on an alternative energy source using thorium, a rare earth element.

“Hopefully this development will provide an alternative method to reduce dependence on electricity generated by fossil fuel. This method of generating electricity through a rare earth material would help in reducing our carbon footprint and we see that this method would add to our clean energy usage in the future.

“Currently, Perodua also uses solar energy to partly power its plants as well as natural gas as it strives to meet its carbon neutral target by 2050.

“We welcome all Malaysians to visit our booth at the MAS 2025 to experience and see where we are headed. We hope that you can follow us on our journey moving forward,” he said.
