NVIDIA has announced plans to build AI supercomputers entirely within the United States for the first time, in collaboration with its manufacturing partners.
The company is working with TSMC, Foxconn, Wistron, Amkor, and SPIL to establish a robust AI supply chain based in the U.S.
More than one million square feet of manufacturing space has been commissioned to produce and test NVIDIA’s new Blackwell chips in Arizona, and to assemble AI supercomputers in Texas.
Production of the Blackwell chips has already begun at TSMC’s facilities in Phoenix. Meanwhile, supercomputer manufacturing is underway with Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas, with mass production expected to scale up over the next 12 to 15 months.
Given the complexity of AI chip and supercomputer production, NVIDIA is also working with Amkor and SPIL in Arizona for packaging and testing operations.
Over the next four years, NVIDIA aims to produce up to $500 billion worth of AI infrastructure in the U.S. through these partnerships. The effort is expected to strengthen the supply chain and expand the global footprint of all companies involved.
NVIDIA describes its AI supercomputers as the engines of a new kind of data center built specifically for artificial intelligence, referred to as “AI factories.”
The CEO of NVIDIA Jensen Huang stated that this is the first time the engines of the world’s AI infrastructure are being built in the United States.
“Adding American manufacturing helps us better meet the incredible and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthens our supply chain and boosts our resiliency,” he added.
The initiative is also expected to create hundreds of thousands of jobs and contribute trillions of dollars in economic impact over the coming decades.
