The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is ramping up nationwide enforcement operations to ensure full compliance with the Tourism Industry Act 1992 (Act 482) and the Tourism Vehicle Licensing Act 1999 (Act 594).
This move aims to safeguard tourist safety, promote industry integrity, and support Malaysia’s broader tourism goals, including the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Between 14 July and 3 August 2025, MOTAC conducted 35 coordinated enforcement operations across various locations in collaboration with key government agencies, including the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), National Registration Department (JPN), and the Penang Port Commission.
These operations focused on ensuring that all tourism operators and vehicles comply with licensing and regulatory requirements.
During this period, inspections were carried out on:
- 220 tourism vehicles
- 200 tourism companies
- 4 tourism accommodation premises
- 67 tour guides
As a result, 24 notices were issued for violations of tourism regulations. Among these, 5 notices were issued for operating tourism businesses without valid licenses, and 7 notices were for the use of unlicensed vehicles to transport tourists.
MOTAC has emphasized that strict enforcement measures, including prosecution, fines, suspension, or revocation of licenses, will be applied to ensure compliance.
MOTAC also reminded all licensed tourism companies to partner only with other licensed entities and to use fully licensed tourism vehicles when providing services. These steps are crucial not only for legal compliance but also for maintaining the safety and trust of tourists visiting Malaysia.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to comprehensive, multi-agency enforcement in line with the principles of good governance, fairness, and public confidence under the Malaysia MADANI framework. MOTAC urged tourism associations and the public to play an active role in supporting national initiatives to strengthen the tourism industry.
Through these continuous efforts, MOTAC aims to create a safe, well-regulated, and high-integrity tourism sector, which will ultimately contribute to the success of Malaysia’s tourism objectives and enhance visitor experiences nationwide.
