PETRONAS, through its Powering Knowledge flagship programme, has awarded education sponsorships to more than 650 deserving students during a ceremony held today.
The recipients, consisting of 2024 SPM school leavers from various backgrounds, received full scholarships to pursue studies in disciplines such as chemical, petroleum and mechanical engineering, marketing, and other related fields.
They will further their education at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and several leading universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.
The selection process, which attracted close to 9,000 applicants nationwide, was based on academic merit, leadership qualities and active participation in extracurricular activities.
Awards were presented by PETRONAS Senior Vice President and Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Ruslan Islahudin, alongside Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management, Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong.
In his remarks, Ruslan said the sponsorship opens doors to new opportunities and provides access to top universities locally and abroad, helping students broaden their perspectives, deepen their knowledge, and prepare to contribute positively to society.
“This year alone, PETRONAS has allocated RM319 million to support talented students. This demonstrates our continued commitment to strengthening the education ecosystem, offering sponsorships and creating clear pathways to employment,” he said.
The sponsorships form part of the Powering Knowledge initiative, underscoring PETRONAS’ long-term dedication to nurturing Malaysia’s human capital. Since its establishment in 1975, the programme has benefited over 40,000 Malaysian students, with a total investment of approximately RM4.2 billion.
Powering Knowledge also supports PETRONAS’ Sustainability Agenda and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, focusing on quality education and the development of future leaders who can create lasting social impact.
