Malaysia is set to return to the Formula 1 calendar after Formula 1 and the FIA confirmed that Sepang International Circuit will host the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix from 2 to 4 October 2026.
The race will be held in Malaysia under the Bahrain Grand Prix name and is scheduled between the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the Singapore Grand Prix on the 2026 calendar.
Formula 1 said the arrangement was made in cooperation with the FIA, Bahrain and Malaysian authorities to ensure the Bahrain Grand Prix remains on the 2026 season schedule. The event will restore the championship calendar to 23 races.
Sepang previously hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix from 1999 until 2017 and is widely regarded as one of Formula 1’s most memorable circuits. The upcoming event will be officially known as the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia 2026.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali thanked both Bahrain and Malaysia for their cooperation, describing the agreement as an example of the sport’s ability to adapt and maintain a full championship calendar.
The announcement has sparked excitement among Malaysian motorsport fans, with the October race expected to bring Formula 1 back to Sepang for the first time in nearly a decade.
