IKEA has unveiled its most ambitious smart home launch to date, introducing 21 new Matter-compatible products designed to make connected living simpler, more affordable, and more accessible for everyone.
The new lineup spanning lighting, sensors, and smart controls is fully compatible with Matter, the emerging global smart home standard backed by major tech players including Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung.
This move positions IKEA at the forefront of the next wave of interoperable home technology, where devices from different brands can seamlessly work together.
A Fresh Start for IKEA’s Smart Home Vision

With this launch, IKEA is effectively rebuilding its smart home ecosystem from the ground up. The Swedish retailer says the new range is the result of years of development and testing in real homes, reflecting deeper insights into how people actually want technology to function in daily life.
“Until now, smart home technology hasn’t been easy enough to use for most people or affordable enough for many to consider. This launch brings us closer to helping everyone feel ready and confident to get started,” said David Granath, Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden.
The new collection introduces both entirely new products and updates to existing favourites, redesigned to work natively with the Matter protocol. This means users can now integrate IKEA devices with other brands’ smart platforms, offering a far more flexible and unified smart home experience.
Three Key Segments: Light, Sense, and Control
The updated IKEA Home smart range is anchored around three main categories: lighting, sensors, and control, forming what the company calls “the building blocks of a smart home that grows with you.”
Lighting: The new KAJPLATS bulb series includes 11 different variations in shapes, lumen levels, and styles, with options for colour and white spectrum lighting as well as dimmable features. Compared with the previous TRÅDFRI bulbs, these new models deliver more precise light control, wider colour ranges, and improved brightness options.

Sensors: IKEA introduces five smart sensors under names like MYGGSPRAY, MYGGBETT, TIMMERFLOTTE, ALPSTUGA, and KLIPPBOK covering everything from motion detection to air quality, humidity, and water leakage monitoring. These compact devices are designed to support wellbeing, improve safety and prevent damage in the home.
Control: The company is also launching new BILRESA remote controls both button and scroll-wheel models and a GRILLPLATS smart plug that turns ordinary appliances into connected devices. The plug can be operated remotely and even tracks energy consumption, allowing users to monitor power use in real time.
“Our focus has been on keeping things simple from setup to daily use so people can easily start, use, and expand their smart home over time,” said Stjepan Begic, Product Developer at IKEA of Sweden.
Powered by Matter and the DIRIGERA Hub
All of IKEA’s new smart products are built to work with Matter, which requires a central hub to connect devices. IKEA’s own DIRIGERA hub serves as a certified Matter controller, capable of managing both IKEA and third-party smart products.
As a Matter Bridge, the DIRIGERA hub ensures that existing IKEA smart devices, even those not originally designed for Matter, will remain compatible with the new standard. This allows current users to upgrade their systems without replacing older devices.
Designed Around Real Homes
IKEA’s strategy for the smart home has always been grounded in real-life needs rather than technology for technology’s sake. With over 900 million annual store visits, the company says it learns continuously from how people live at home and adapts its innovations accordingly.
“Our goal is still the same as when we started exploring the smart home in 2012: to make it easy to use, easy to understand, and within reach for the many,” Granath said. “We believe technology should serve a purpose, not exist for its own sake. This launch helps us take another big step toward that vision.”
