
China recorded an average of 198 million inter-regional passenger trips per day during the three-day New Year holiday that ended on Saturday.
Figures from the Ministry of Transport showed that daily passenger travel increased 19.62% year on year, bringing the total number of passenger trips during the holiday period to 595 million. The data points to strong travel demand across the country during the New Year break.
Highway travel continued to dominate overall passenger movement, with 539 million trips recorded over the three-day period. On a daily basis, highway passenger traffic rose 15.7% compared with the same period last year.
Among major transport modes, railway travel recorded the fastest growth. Average daily railway passenger trips rose 52.66% year on year showing a sharp increase in rail usage during the holiday.
Passenger trips via waterway transport and civil aviation also recorded double-digit increases over the same period, according to the ministry.
