Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has announced the appointment of two new members to its Shariah Advisory Council (SAC), effective 1 May 2025.
The newly appointed members are Director of the Centre of Excellence for Islamic Social Finance at INCEIF University Prof. Dr. Amir Shaharuddin, and Member of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman.
With these additions, the SAC now comprises nine members with expertise in Shariah, Islamic finance, accounting, and law.

The SAC serves as the highest authority for Shariah matters related to Islamic financial businesses in Malaysia.
Its decisions are binding on Islamic financial institutions and act as key references for courts and arbitrators when handling disputes involving Islamic finance.
These appointments are expected to further strengthen the integrity and public confidence in Malaysia’s Islamic financial system while ensuring continued Shariah compliance in the sector.
