Apple announced on 28 May that it is expanding its Self Service Repair program to include selected iPad models, allowing more users to repair their own devices using official tools and parts.
Starting 29 May, iPad users with supported models including iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad Pro (M4), iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPad (A16), can order genuine Apple parts, use Apple-approved tools, and access repair manuals through the Self Service Repair Store.
Among the parts available for replacement are displays, batteries, cameras, and charging ports.
The Self Service Repair program, first launched in 2022, is aimed at users who are confident in fixing their own devices. It offers access to the same tools and parts used by Apple technicians and Apple Authorized Service Providers.
Apple’s Vice President of AppleCare, Brian Naumann stated that with this announcement, Apple is excited to expand the repair services to more customers, enabling them to further extend the life of their products without compromising safety, security, or privacy.
With this update, the program now supports 65 Apple products, including the latest iPhone 16e, MacBook Air, and Mac Studio.
In addition to the iPad repair update, Apple also shared more details about its Genuine Parts Distributor program. This initiative allows independent repair shops even those without a direct service agreement with Apple to purchase official Apple parts through third-party distributors.

Among the distributors named are MobileSentrix in the U.S., and MobileSentrix and Mobileparts.shop in Europe. These distributors currently offer parts for iPhone repairs, with iPad components to be added from 29 May.
Over the past few years, Apple has expanded its repair ecosystem to include more service options such as Apple Stores, Apple Authorized Service Providers, Independent Repair Providers, mail-in repair centers, and now Self Service Repair and the Genuine Parts Distributor program.
This move is part of Apple’s ongoing effort to give customers more control over the maintenance of their devices, while promoting sustainability by extending product lifespans.
