Air France-KLM is reinforcing its long-term commitment to France’s industrial and aviation ecosystem by significantly expanding its aircraft maintenance workforce.
As global air travel continues its post-pandemic recovery and fleets modernise, the Group plans to recruit more than 1,000 permanent employees in France within its Maintenance division by the end of 2027, positioning aircraft maintenance as a key pillar of sustainable growth.
While Air France-KLM is best known for its passenger airlines, the Group is also a global leader in aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO).
Through Air France-KLM Engineering & Maintenance, the Group services not only its own fleets but also more than 3,000 aircraft operated by over 200 client airlines worldwide.
Globally, Air France-KLM employs 13,500 maintenance professionals, with 7,200 based in France, making it one of the country’s most significant industrial employers. Its maintenance operations span 20 maintenance centres and eight logistics hubs across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia.
The scale and complexity of these operations have driven sustained hiring momentum. Since 2022, the Group has recruited nearly 500 permanent maintenance employees per year in France, reflecting strong demand for skilled technical talent as aircraft utilisation rises and new-generation engines enter service.
To support its workforce expansion, Air France-KLM has placed strong emphasis on training, early-career development, and skills transmission. Each year, the Group offers 350 apprenticeship contracts and 300 internship placements.
These opportunities are available across major maintenance sites in Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly / Villeneuve-le-Roi, and Toulouse.
Training pathways cover core areas such as:
- Airframe maintenance
- Engine maintenance
- Equipment support (electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, aerostructures)
- Logistics and supply chain operations
Beyond employment within the Group, Air France-KLM plays a significant role in the broader French economy. The Group supports more than 550,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs nationwide and contributes 1.9% of France’s GDP, rising to 3% in the Île-de-France region.
By combining industrial investment, skills development, and inclusive recruitment practices, Air France-KLM’s maintenance expansion highlights how large aviation groups can support national employment objectives while preparing for the future demands of global air transport.
